Title
Fabrication and measurement for the next-generation freeform optics
Abstract
Freeform optics is promising to be used to the next-generation optical system due to the ability of design inspiration and excellent optical performance relative to the conventional asymmetric optics. The fabrication mechanism and processing technology are also different from that of the conventional optics. The manufacture of freeform optics is an integrated processing, including optical design, ultra-precision machining, measurement, and etc. This report aims to introduce some achievements on fabrication and measurement of freeform optics of MNMT, which have been applied in some high-tech productions and other fields.
Biography
Dr Xiaodong Zhang’s main research interests focus on the manufacturing and applications of optical freeform surfaces, i.e., optical complex surfaces. His research work mainly includes ultra-precision machining mechanisms, process optimization, ultra-precision metrology, machining quality and performance evaluation, application system design and implementation. He has published more than 100 papers in journals and conference proceedings and applied for more than 40 patents. He was honored with the titles of ‘Youth Science and Technology Talent’ of Tianjin City in 2014 and ‘Elite Scholar’ of Tianjin University in 2016. He won ‘Young Researcher Award’ of the Asian Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (ASPEN) in 2013, and became an Associate Member of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP) in 2018.
